History
We purchased the land that became Brookefield Farms in 1982, it began with just a few commercial beef cows; in 1997 we established a registered Black Angus seedstock herd. When we converted the commercial operation to registered Angus it was because of a vision stemming from a passion for farming and love of cattle; we wanted to create a Black Angus herd of recognized quality. The land that we sit upon was previously a dairy dating back to the 1830's. The farm is located in the picturesque foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in the small Upstate New York town of Hartford, NY.
Long before we started farming here in New York, our family farmed in Erie and Butler Counties, Pennsylvania; on land granted for service in the Revolutionary War. They started there with crop farming, switching to dairy, then in the early 1900's making the change to beef cattle, with registered Polled Herefords. Our commitment and passion for the land and our cattle runs deep.
Our cattle are selectively chosen and represent the best available genetics in the industry today. Our marketing is national, and our focus is to support cattle production in the Northeast. Our goal continues to be our vision to become a positive influence in developing a profitable, no-nonsense, yet compassionate and sustainable business approach to raising registered Angus in the Northeast, and helping to keep agriculture and family farms thriving for future generations.
We support all the local sales, both as buyers and sellers of top–quality cattle, and we continue to be actively involved in all regional organizations both on a production and legislative level.
We want to acknowledge and thank the supportive network of Angus breeders who have helped us reach our dream. Words cannot express our appreciation for their friendship, tireless support, and guidance. We want to share our own good fortune by supporting others who wish to enjoy the rich and rewarding experience of farming both as a way of life and a viable business enterprise.
